Education past

We have worked for many years with the British education system – either from the inside or commenting from without.

This section will contain a collection of histories, memories and insight into British education since 1944.

We are hoping to look further than a just a dispassionate history. We hope to discover the inspiration given by the 1944 Act, made law in the depths of a savage war; for the social and cultural vision the Act bore with it; and for the qualities of imagination it brought out in local authorities and the education officers who served them.

If you look around there are very few places where the voices of the people who were there can be recorded for future generations.

We hope this is the beginning of an exciting historical experiment. Please come back again soon.
